5 Best Fish & Chips in Saigon That Feel Like Home

Ah, fish and chips! The classic golden, crispy heaven wrapped in paper, served with a wedge of lemon and lashings of tartare. Regardless if you’re a Brit abroad craving a taste of home or just someone who appreciates fried perfection, Saigon’s got a handful of spots doing this iconic dish justice. Here’s a look at 5 of the best fish and chips in Saigon that hits the spot.

1. Union Jack’s

Alright, we’ll admit it, we’re putting ourselves first on the list. But hear us out: we’ve been at this a while. We know we earned it.

At Union Jack’s, we’ve spent years refining our take on proper fish & chips. From sourcing sustainable New Zealand Ling Cod and flaky local snapper to triple-cooking our chips to golden perfection. And yes, we fry everything the traditional way, in beef drippings, for that rich, nostalgic flavour. Prefer a plant-based option? We’ve got veggie oil ready to go, too.

But there’s more to us than just fish & chips. We also serve up comfort food classics. Think full English breakfasts with all the trimmings: crispy bacon, proper sausages, runny eggs, buttery mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, baked beans, and toast. Or how about bangers and mash, with thick Cumberland sausages nestled on a bed of creamy mash, smothered in rich onion gravy? Our Beef & Ale Stew is slow-cooked, deeply satisfying, and exactly what you’d want on a drizzly afternoon.

And because we know homes come in all flavours, we don’t stop at just British fare. We’ve got a few Irish and Aussie classics on the menu too, and a growing selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes that are just as hearty and satisfying as the originals.

If you’re after a place that feels a little bit like home, with proper food, friendly faces, and maybe a pint or two, come by and see what we’re all about. We think you’ll leave full, happy, and maybe just a little bit nostalgic.

Opening hours: Open daily between 9 AM – 9:30 PM (closed on Wednesday)

Location: 10 Nguyen Ba Lan, Thao Dien, District Thu Duc City, HCMC

2. The Rabbit Hole Irish Bar

Credit where credit’s due: the folks over at The Rabbit Hole know their way around a fryer. Their beer-battered Ling Cod comes out crispy, served with homemade fries, mushy peas (respect), and a tartar sauce that gets a respectful nod from us across the street.

The Rabbit Hole Irish Bar has 2 main locations: Phu Quoc and Saigon. But no matter which location you land in, you’re guaranteed a warm welcome, friendly English-speaking staff, and a laid-back vibe that feels like your local, even if you’re half a world away.

And if you’re a sports nut, you’re in luck, Rabbit Hole’s got big screens, cold beer, and absolutely no judgment for yelling at the ref. They can even run multiple games at once, so no one’s missing a moment.

Opening hours: Open daily between 3 PM – 2 AM (For weekends: 10 AM – 2 AM)

3. L’Usine

If you like your fish & chips in Saigon served with a side of interior design goals, L’Usine is your spot. Their beer battered fish is crisp, clean, and comes with a generous dollop of tartar sauce. The portions lean more refined cafe than hearty pub, but hey, it’s all about the vibes.

With a total of 6 locations spreading across Ho Chi Minh City, L’Usine is perfect for when you’re craving classic comfort food, but also want to eat it somewhere that looks like it belongs in a design magazine.

Opening hours: Depending on location, but generally open daily between 10:00 AM – 9:30 PM

4. Phatty’s Sports Restaurant

Phatty’s is the spot for anyone who wants to watch literally every sport known to mankind while chomping down on some solid pub fare. Their beer-battered seabass is crunchy and fresh, served up with fries, salad, and mum’s secret tartar sauce (we’ve asked for the recipe—no luck so far).

If you’re craving something comforting, casual, and served with cold beer and big screens, Phatty’s delivers.

Opening hours: Open daily between 8 AM – 12 AM

Location: 48 Ton That Thiep, Ben Nghe, District 1, HCMC

5. The Albion by Kirk Westaway

Alright, this one’s a bit posh. The Albion, perched on the 23rd floor of Hôtel des Arts, brings you fish & chips in Saigon with a view. It’s the brainchild of Chef Kirk Westaway (yep, two Michelin stars), and their take on the British classic features beer battered toothfish, pea purée, and fat vinegar chips. Fancy.

It’s not your everyday chippy, but if you’re celebrating, impressing someone, or just really into pea purée, it’s a top-tier experience.

Opening hours: Open daily between 5:30 – 11:30 PM (On Sunday: 12 – 4 PM, 5:30 – 11:30 PM)

Location: 76-78 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Vo Thi Sau ward, District 3, HCMC
